The protestors in Vizhinjam attacked journalists who came to report the protests being led by Latin Archdiocese against Vizhinjam port. The people including women attacked them asking not to capture the video of their protests. The attack was against the media group including 24 News, Media One and Asianet News.
A massive protest is taking place in the Vizhinjam project area under the leadership of the Latin Archdiocese. As a mark of protest, the fishermen who came in their boats burnt them. The strike was organised on land and sea simultaneously on the 100th day of the protest.
The protests were organized at the entrances of Mullur and Vizhinjam and Muthalappozhi. The protesters broke the lock of the main gate of Mullur and entered the project area. The protestors reached the striking pandal in Mullur in bikes and autos from 8.30 am onwards.
The protest committee led by the Latin Archdiocese has been protesting since July 30 raising seven demands. Apart from the demand to halt port construction and study coastal erosion, six other demands were accepted. The protestors are intensifying the demand to conduct a study.
