Old age and travelling usually don’t go hand in hand. Aging citizens of our country, usually try to relax and are mostly dependent on their kith and kin. However, here is a retired couple who chose to think differently.
Embarking on a pan-India road journey is a cherished aspiration for many. But one does not expect a retired couple to go on a journey from Delhi to Kanyakumari all by themselves. The couple went a step ahead and has chronicled their adventures on social media.
Setting off in January, they embarked on a 52-day expedition from Delhi to Kanyakumari in a campervan equipped with a compact kitchenette. Their shared videos primarily showcase the delectable meals they prepare en route, with both partners collaborating in meal preparation and alternating driving duties.
“Recently, one of their Instagram videos gained immense popularity, amassing over 1.5 million likes. The clip captures the couple taking a break at the Aurangabad highway to prepare their midday meal. Despite their modest setup, they craft a wholesome dish of aloo-vadi curry with rice. The man energetically shares their lunch plans, remarking, ‘Today, we’re preparing aloo-vadi curry with rice for lunch in our camper van, right here on the Aurangabad highway. Shaded by a tamarind tree, we’re fully embracing life’s pleasures.’”
In the comment section, viewers flooded the couple with words of encouragement. It’s uncommon in India to witness older couples embarking on road trips and dedicating time to their passions. Thus, this couple presents a distinct example of individuals embracing life to the fullest, even in their 50s.
An Instagram commenter remarked, “It’s great to see parents finally seizing the moment and creating lasting memories.” Another individual added, “That’s exactly what every parent should do! Embrace life and experience it fully.” Actor Kavita Kaushik, renowned for her role as Chandramukhi Chautala in SAB TV’s sitcom F.I.R., expressed admiration, stating, “Proud of you! Truly inspiring… Sending you both more strength and love.”
Numerous individuals expressed admiration for the couple, viewing them as a model for their own future endeavors. Echoing this sentiment, an Instagram user remarked, “This could be us in our 50s.” Another confidently asserted, “This is the ultimate dream.” A third person declared, “If I’m not living this life in 20 years, then it’s not the life for me.”
Even though the couple goes by the name “Retired Punjabi”, they have settled in a scenic cottage in Mukteshwar, Uttarakhand.
