Exposing the reality in Kerala which claims to be the No 1 state in the country, reports have emerged in a tribal family was found eating raw jackfruit en route holy shrine of Sabarimala. The heartbreaking photos of the hungry family eating raw jackfruit went viral on the internet.
The picture shows six of a family belonging to a tribal community eating on the wayside eagerly eating raw jackfruit. The family includes two girls under the age of two, a boy and two young women and their mother. The fingers of the boy, who was no more than two years old, were trembling with cold. According to the report, the family left home and were 2 kilometres away, in search of food.
It is learned that one of the family members was undergoing treatment at Ranni Hospital for a week. During this time there was a wild animal attack in the colony and ration items were destroyed. When the news went viral, the government intervened and claimed that they have made necessary arrangements for food.
Meanwhile, the Human Rights Commission intervened in the plight of a family. The Commission has asked the Collector of Pathanamthitta to submit the report within two weeks after taking necessary steps. Studies have found that tribal communities such as Adiyas, Paniyas, and Kattunaikas, and also the Scheduled Castes remain at alarming poverty levels in comparison to the general population in the state.
