The police have confirmed that the train fire incident, which occurred on the Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express train in Kerala, was premeditated. The assailant is believed to be a native of Uttar Pradesh, with police investigating potential links to terrorism and Maoist groups. The Anti-Terrorism Squad has also launched an investigation into the incident.
Forensic and fingerprint verification has been conducted, with railways also announcing an inquiry into the incident. The preliminary conclusion is that the assailant poured petrol on the D1 coach and set it on fire, resulting in the deaths of three people who are suspected to have jumped from the train to escape the flames.
Nine passengers, including three women, also suffered burns and are receiving medical treatment. The recovered book, suspected to belong to the assailant, is written in English and Hindi, with place names such as Thiruvananthapuram and Delhi mentioned in the text. Police also recovered a mobile phone, glasses, purse, t-shirt, track pants, overcoat, tiffin box containing food, snack packets, candy, pen, bottle of petrol, sticky note, and some nails from the bag.
The incident occurred on Sunday night when the train was leaving Kozhikode railway station for Kannur. While there are reports indicating that the incident could be a terror attack, there has been no official confirmation on this matter.
