Tamil Nadu Health Minister M Subramaniam has said that banning the making and sale of shawarma in the state is in the consideration of the government. Speaking at an event, he said that the move is following the recent inspections conducted in the state following a death reported in Kerala.
The death of a student after eating shawarma in Kerala came as a shock. Notices and fines were issued to more than a thousand shops during an extensive inspection in Tamil Nadu, said the minister.
Shawarma is mostly eaten by youngsters. In a short span of time, several shawarma outlets have opened in the state. Shawarma is a delicacy in the West where due to specific weather conditions it doesn’t get easily spoiled. At the same time, the climatic condition is different in the country and eating local food is good for health.
He was speaking at the inauguration of the mega corona immunization camps organized across the state today.
