Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh issued a stern warning to the people of the state, cautioning them about the consequences they will face if they continue to engage in acts of violence. The statement came in response to an incident on Sunday night when unidentified individuals opened fire without provocation, injuring an Army soldier in Imphal West district.
Addressing the media, Chief Minister Singh called for an immediate cessation of violence. He emphasized that failure to do so would result in severe repercussions. Additionally, he appealed to the Meitei community, urging those individuals who possess arms to refrain from initiating any attacks and to maintain peace. By doing so, he believed that normalcy could be restored in Manipur.
Over the past month, the state has witnessed ethnic clashes between the Meitei and Kuki communities, leading to the loss of more than 100 lives. To restore peace in Manipur, both the Army and paramilitary forces have been deployed.
