Concerns over the possible entry of the lone tusker Arikomban into residential areas in Kanyakumari have prompted a Ganapathi Temple in Kerala’s Palakkad district to conduct a special offering for the majestic elephant.
According to reports, an ‘Ashtadravya Ganapathi Homam’ was organized for Arikomban at a Ganapathi temple in Vadakkencherry on Saturday. The puja was performed as an offering by representatives of an association of animal lovers based in Marine Drive, Kochi.
The auspicious ceremony commenced at 7 am with a beautiful ‘Pushpalankaram’ (flower decoration) and was led by priests Jitendran Embranthiri and Harshan Embranthiri. Devotees gathered at the temple to participate in the ritual and seek the well-being and safety of the lone tusker.
Meanwhile, in response to recent developments, officials from the Tamil Nadu Forest Department have intensified surveillance in the Kanyakumari forest borders. Radio collar signals have confirmed the presence of Arikomban in the area on Thursday night, raising concerns about potential interactions with humans in residential areas.
The increased vigilance aims to ensure the safety of both the elephant and local residents. Efforts are being made to closely monitor Arikomban’s movements and prevent any possible conflicts or incidents.
Arikomban, the lone tusker, has garnered attention and affection from people across the region. His presence in the vicinity has led to a heightened sense of awareness and the need for proactive measures to protect both wildlife and human populations.
