The Supreme Court bench of Justices BR Gavai and Vikram Nath has expressed the view that in the development of the Sabarimala Master Plan, not only wildlife conservation but also the sentiments of the people should be taken into consideration. K. Amarnath Shetty, the Secretary of the High Authority Committee, accused the Supreme Court of the Kerala High Court of permitting construction activities at Sabarimala in violation of forest and environmental regulations.
The Supreme Court was hearing a petition seeking an amendment in the Sabarimala Master Plan when Justice BR Gavai stated that people’s feelings should also be factored into the development of Sabarimala. K. Parameshwar, the amicus curiae, informed the Supreme Court that the issues related to the master plan are already being considered by the Kerala High Court. The amicus curiae suggested that the issues should be left for the High Court’s consideration, which the Supreme Court accepted.
During the hearing, K. Amarnath Shetty, who was present in the court, criticized the High Court’s intervention and claimed that it was giving permission for construction work in Sabarimala that goes beyond the rules. The Supreme Court stated that any errors in the High Court’s judgments can be corrected if pointed out.
