‘The man who walked amidst raised swords’ seems like an old story. The frightened communist CM is now surrounded by policemen following the revelations of the gold-smuggling case accused Swapna Suresh. Kerala witnessed extraordinary security measures for a programme the CM attended today.
All major roads in Kottayam city were closed by the police without warning. The roads were closed an hour and a half before the arrival of the Chief Minister. Police closed all major intersections on KK Road, including Baselios Junction, Collectorate Junction, Chandaka Junction and Erayil Kadavu.
The area experienced heavy traffic congestion due to restrictions. Police even stopped pedestrians walking on the road. It was only after asking everyone where they were going and making sure that no one was on the road that the CM’s vehicle reached and passed on the road to the convention city.
A family who was returning from church was trapped in the middle of the road for about an hour and a half. “Let us go home, and what harm can we do for the Chief Minister?” The family asked. The family was released by the police after a DySP finally arrived.
