The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has revealed that the Popular Front of India’s (PFI) agenda is behind the ‘Hindi Theriyathu Poda’ (I don’t know Hindi, get lost) campaign in Chennai and the ‘Cutting South’ conclave in Kochi. The agency has linked the two events to stoke anti-Hindi sentiment in Tamil Nadu and other southern states.
The ‘Hindi Theriyat Poda’ campaign involved PFI-owned t-shirt manufacturers in Tirupur distributing lakhs of t-shirts with the phrase ‘Hindi Theriyathu Poda’ written in English. However, the phrase is in Tamil, and the t-shirts were intended for distribution throughout South India. The campaign failed to catch on as it was revealed that there was no anti-Hindi sentiment in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala.
The ‘Cutting South’ conclave, which was the next step, also failed to catch on. The organizers received funding from Qatar via Canada, and Confluence Media Chairman Josie Joseph was the fundraiser. Joseph was also awarded the best writer award at the conclave. The Kerala Journalists’ Union (KUWJ), which was in charge of management, also received funds. The Enforcement Directorate is currently tracing the money trail on the Canada route for the Cutting South Conclave.
The Delhi Police and the Karnataka Police are cooperating with the NIA investigation into the conspiracy with the Popular Front. However, the NIA has not approached the Kerala Police due to mistrust. The agency believes that the Kerala Police may have links to the PFI.
The NIA’s investigation into the ‘Hindi Theriyat Poda’ campaign and the ‘Cutting South’ conclave is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge in due course. The agency is taking these events very seriously and is determined to uncover the full extent of the PFI’s involvement.
