In a shocking turn of events, a gruesome incident unfolded in Padiyottuchal as five individuals, including three innocent children, were discovered dead inside a residence. The police have launched an extensive investigation into the matter, striving to unravel the truth behind this heart-wrenching tragedy.
The deceased have been identified as Shaji (42), his wife Sreeja (38), and Sreeja’s children Sooraj (12), Sujin (8), and Surabhi (6). The grim scene unfolded on Wednesday, when Shaji and Sreeja were found hanging from a ceiling fan within the room, while the lifeless bodies of the children were discovered hanging from the stairs.
Authorities have conducted post-mortem examinations, revealing the presence of chemicals in the bodies of all three children. Initial observations suggest that these substances might be sleeping pills, pointing to a grim possibility that the children were administered the pills before their lives were cruelly taken away. However, further analysis of their internal organs is deemed necessary to determine whether the substances found were toxic.
The chilling phone call that preceded the discovery of the bodies adds an eerie element to the tragedy. At 6 am, Civil Police Officer K Sahadevan of the Cherupuzha police station received a distressing call from a woman claiming responsibility for the heinous act. “Sir, we killed our children, we are also leaving,” she confessed. Authorities promptly alerted local residents and dispatched a team to the scene, but tragically, it was too late to save any lives.
As news of the incident spread, a wave of grief and shock engulfed the community. Local law enforcement officials, including Kannur rural police chief M Hemalatha, Payyannur DySP KE Premachandran, and inspector Santosh Kumar, arrived at the scene to coordinate investigations and provide support.
Preliminary inquiries into the family dynamics suggest a complex web of interpersonal issues. Shaji was Sreeja’s second husband, and their marriage took place recently on May 16. Tensions arose when the couple began living together, leading Sreeja’s former husband, Sunil, to file a police complaint. Notably, the three children who tragically lost their lives were from Sreeja’s previous marriage.
Adding to the intricate circumstances, Shaji has another wife and two children. His first wife, Geetha, lodged a complaint seeking custody of their children, further deepening the family turmoil. The community remains in shock, as the children were known for their vivacity and active participation in school and community events. The unfathomable act committed by the couple has left friends, neighbors, and authorities grappling for answers.
Law enforcement agencies have enlisted the expertise of fingerprint analysts, dog squads, and forensic teams to meticulously examine the premises. Their tireless efforts are focused on uncovering the truth and shedding light on the tragic events that unfolded within the walls of the Padiyottuchal residence.
As investigations continue, the community mourns the loss of innocent lives and struggles to comprehend the motives behind such a devastating act.
