The impression that he leaves behind in my mind through his shenanigans described in voluminous narratives happens to be that he was a ‘Secular-fanatic’ turgid with sanguinary vengeance against Hindu-s. And he was pushed into that psychotic state by our very own Self-awarded Bharata-Ratna, the last Mughal Jawaharlal Nehru who unfortunately presided over destiny of this ancient civilization for seventeen long years. His ‘Secular-fanatic’ credentials are established by the fact that he lit and continued smoking his favourite cigar sitting on dais while the entire Muslim audience was rendering ‘namaz’ in response to ‘azan’ in the midst of his election rally in Jalandhar. He thereafter resumed his speech in English as he never cared to learn Urdu, frequently announced ‘Islam is in danger’ to roaring approval from the audience.
Why do we hold MA Jinnah accountable for peddling ‘Two-nation’ doctrine when we all know that every other Muslim subscribes to the doctrine and Islamic exclusivity on a very high pedestal so much so that it led to coinage of terms like ‘Kafir’, ‘Jehad’, ‘Islamophobia due to Kafir-ophobia’ etc. ? So-called ‘Sufi-saint’ of Panjab Ahmad Sirhindi of so-called Naqashbandi order (1564-1634) was the first person to proclaim openly that Hinduism and Islam were antithetical to each other and followers of both can/will never co-exist in the same country. He even went to the extent of declaring execution of Guru Arjuna Deva by a Mughal brute a ‘holy triumph’ even as the Guru was ditched by his friend Mian Mir when he was incarcerated for execution. The doctrine of pathological Islamic-intolerance towards Hindu-s was christened as ‘Two-nation Theory’ in due course, later patronised by the notorious founder of Aligarh Muslim University. ‘Eminent historians’ of Marxist brand do accuse the legendary freedom-fighter Vinayak Savarkar of peddling the two-nation doctrine overlooking his sheer disgust and desperation in view of fanatical assertion of the theory vehemently by the Jinnah lobby just as MK Gandhi went to the extent of offering Prime Ministership of the undivided nation to Jinnah merely in order to prevent the dreaded Partition-1947.
When the Khilafat Committee and Muslim League endorsed the absurdity of Hindu provinces paying much more taxes than Islamic provinces albeit shared by them brazenly equal, Muslim soldiers refusing to fight Muslim attackers for Bharata, Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar was exasperated to write straight out in Volume VIII of his ‘Complete Works’, “An enemy without one’s borders is more desirable than an enemy within.” If Jinnah had not accentuated on the two-nation theory integrated into Islamic theocracy, 60% non-Muslim population in an undivided Bharata would have been under grave threat of existence and survival. 40% Muslim population would have waged a fierce civil war to capture the nation with 60% non-Muslims being enslaved and slaughtered like sheeps and goats under very nose of either the British-despot Mountbatten who prostituted his wife to ensure Partition-1947 of Bharata or our ‘Hindu by accident’ Prime Minister, the last Mughal Jawaharlal Nehru.
By no stretch of imagination was Jinnah a popular leader with a mass followings across the nation. Then how did he succeed in bifurcating the nation into two ? There have been two rational explanations floating around us.
First was his accurate reading of Muslim psyche who happened to be generally nervous about their fate after British occupation was terminated coming immediately behind Mughal domination limited to a century or so, Muslims being minimally educated albeit intensely indoctrinated, much lesser in numbers with no presence in decision making bodies notwithstanding their fanatical obsession to Islamise entire nation, banish Sanatana Dharma, convert all Hindu-s into Islam allow them unmitigated liberty to do anything under the sun including brutal means to realise those goal. In spite of being well-knit and exceedingly violent, they always find themselves nervous in any non-Islamic regime, that’s an irony.
Second is the magnitude of humiliation wrought upon him by the Gandhi-Nehru duo so much so that at one stage he left the country back to England to pursue his career in law. Owing to persistent demands from Muslims back in Bharata and other compelling circumstances, he returned to stubbornly agitate Congress politics from inside and he accomplished it with ruthless finesse.
Golden opportunity to wreak havoc in the country fell on smoke-rings wafting around his cigar too soon. Sultan of Turkey had been dethroned and exiled in 1924 by Kemal Ataturk with no other Caliph to replace him. Jinnah formulated a sinister plan in cahoots with students of Aligarh Muslim University to divide the nation which might go a long way to establish a new Caliph in New Medina. All the highest paid Barrister wished in return was his name in golden letters in the history thereof. He achieved what he set out to in Lahore on March 23 of 1940 as he was viewed by Muslims as the only capable negotiator to deal with British-intruders on their behalf. Had he declined those persistent appeals of Muslims, probably there might not have been partition at all. And he went about the assignment of partitioning the nation so zealously that he stupidly sowed seeds of Partition-1971 of Pakistan too by declaring in Dhaka in Feb. 1948 that Pakistan could have only one language and that was Urdu. He outright refused to concede even a needle-tip space to Bengali language in the spirit of Duryodhana in his country. His mental derangement can possibly be inferred better from his curt reply to Bharatiya Muslims who approached him to inquire about their fate post Partition-1947, “I have achieved for you what you wanted; now look after yourself. What more can I do?”
Noy only he died miserably with his dream of dividing the nation and presiding over a fierce Hindu-Holocaust of 1948 in the city of his birth i.e. Karachi, he had the honour of being buried in his British tailored Savile Row suit deep in the soil of his dreams in Pakistan as their Governor-General.
