In an incident connected to the controversy over the movie named Eso (meaning=Jesus), a Christian association has come up with a warning saying that, if such a movie defaming Jesus is released in Kerala, they will release another movie Mohammed, the POCSO criminal. Earlier, extremist Islamists have accused Mohammed the POCSO criminal of insulting the Prophet Muhammad. The organization’s response is in the context of this.
The Christian Association and Alliance for Social Action, an organization of various Christian denominations, said that if Nadirshah’s film titled ‘Iso’ is released, it will definitely feature a short film titled ‘Mohammed the POCSO Criminal’. The organization wrote on Facebook that if Iso is just a character’s name, then Muhammad is just a character’s name.
If naming a film is about freedom of expression, then naming a short film is about the same freedom of expression. While the story of Iso has nothing to do with the Christian faith, the short film Muhammad has nothing to do with any of the idols in Islam. The story is set in 97 AD in Assam. If the court cannot intervene in the use of the name of Jesus which is being adored by billions of believers across the world, it cannot do anything with the title of Mohammed.
The organisation said that they had requested Nadirsha to avoid giving the name of Jesus to a movie that portrays a criminal named Eso. Despite the repeated requests, he was never ready to change the name of the movie. The organisation further said that if Nadirsha’s Eso is released, the Shortfilm named Mohammed The POCSO criminal will also be released. They also said that it is not the same period when a lecturer’s hand was chopped by Islamic extremists.
