In a significant verdict, the Ernakulam POCSO Court has awarded a life sentence to Monsan Mavunkal in a case involving the molestation of a maid’s daughter. The court found Monsan guilty on 10 out of the 13 charges pressed against him, under IPC 354, IPC 376 (3), and POCSO sections 7 and 8. The incident occurred in 2019, and the court’s verdict marks a significant step towards ensuring justice for the victim.
The incident took place in Kalur, where the victim, the maid’s daughter, was molested at her own house. The court found Monsan guilty of exploiting the girl’s vulnerability by promising her further education. The molestation incidents occurred when the girl was just seventeen years old, and it was revealed through the complaint that she had been subjected to multiple instances of molestation.
Monsan Mavunkal came under the law enforcement’s radar in 2021 for his involvement in an antiquities fraud case, which led to his subsequent arrest. It was during this time that the victim’s mother decided to file a complaint with the city police commissioner. In her statement, she expressed her fear of Monsan, which had initially prevented her from lodging a complaint earlier.
Following a thorough investigation and examination of evidence, the Ernakulam POCSO Court pronounced Monsan Mavunkal guilty on 10 charges, including molestation, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The court’s decision to award him a life sentence sends a strong message that such heinous acts will not go unpunished, bringing a sense of relief to the victim and her family.
