Mannarkkad Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe Court said that the defence lawyer in Attappadi Madhu lynching case had threatened the court of repercussions, if the the bail of the accused revoked.
The statements of the defence lawyer were mentioned in the court order which quashed the bail of 12 accused in the case. The bail was cancelled when the court observed that the accused had infringed the bail conditions by attempting to influence the witnesses.
In the order, the court noted that the defence lawyer warned the trial court judge for being answerable to the high court for revoking the bail. The defence lawyer had also said that unpleasant news will circulate with the judge’s photograph in the media. The trial court order pointed out the statements of the lawyer for the third, sixth, eighth, tenth and twelfth accused in the case.
The defence lawyer warned the court that the latter would have to face harsh criticisms if it did not resort to a fair decision. Meanwhile, the court order does not clarify that the defence lawyer had given these statements during the trial or any other circumstances.
