The Kerala High Court on Thursday criticized top police officials for the misbehavior of the officers in the state police force. The High Court has warned that it may hold higher officers accountable if they do not take action against the misconduct of the police officers.
Justice Devan Ramachandran said that the court will not hesitate to take action against those officials who commit such lapses. The court made the observation while examining the report on the policemen’s code of conduct.
The High Court said that the mere issuance of the order by the state police chief fixing the code of conduct for the policemen will not do. It added that all officers must follow the order.
The court noted that even after the state police chief issued the code of conduct stating the standards for interacting with the public, some policemen are still misbehaving with the public.
The court, which expressed its displeasure after examining the report on the code of conduct submitted by the state police chief, asked the police chief to resubmit the report.
