Police said that a sexual assault case exists against Shafi, an accused in the human sacrifice case in Elanthoor, which shook Kerala. The trial procedures in the case in connection with the rape of a 75-year-old woman within the Puthenkurish police station limit are underway.
The incident happened in August 2020 when Shafi was working as a truck driver in a private company here. He had a close relationship with a 60-year-old woman in the locality and used to visit her house frequently. Once, he attacked a 75-year-old woman who was passing in front of this house and dragged her into the house of the other woman. Police said that he brutally raped the elderly woman with the help of the other woman with whom he had a relationship. He injured the victim with a knife and left the spot. Soon Puthenkurish police nabbed Shafi and produced him in the court. He obtained bail in February 2021.
Police alleged that Shafi is a drunkard and drug addict. He later started to plot other crimes after setting up a shop in Kadavanthara. He trapped women who work in the vicinity and have few family connections.
Police have extended the probe to find whether any other women had gone missing from the regions where Shafi was present. The investigating team will also initiate a probe over the fake Facebook account with the support of cyber police. Shafi will be interrogated after taking him for collecting evidence at the crime spot.
