The Kerala High Court has demanded all paperwork related to the appointment of Prof H Venkateshwarlu as the vice-chancellor of the Central University of Kerala be submitted, as a petition has challenged his appointment.
The order came from Chief Justice S Manikumar and Justice Murali Purushothaman. The petition argues that the appointment violated UGC regulations and the Central Universities Act, 2009.
Dr G Venkitesh Kumar, a professor at Mysore University, filed the petition. The government has opposed the petition, stating that the UGC regulations do not have precise guidelines for VC appointments.
The search committee had been constituted in 2019 to find a suitable candidate, but the ministry was unable to locate one in the panel, so they submitted a new panel from which Prof Venkateshwarlu was chosen.
