It has been an accepted fact that, freedom of the press in Kerala has been brutally curtailed by the LDF government, led by Pinarayi Vijayan, the veteran leader of the communist party in India. It has been made clear when, comrade M V Govindan, the secretary of the state unit of Communist Party of India Marxist and the member of the politburo, declared it openly that, those who oppose the government led by Vijayan, the Party, the student and youth wings of the party and other organizations affiliated to party must have to face serious consequences. Mr. Govindan cautioned the journalists that they cannot claim more immunity if they refuse to report “the true news” approved by the party and its sister organizations and the government led by the party. The free media activity, according to Govindan, means, the obligation of the journalists to obey the commands of the party as, freedom means the necessity to obey the commands of the party according to their ideology. Interestingly, the so-called liberal left intellectuals issued a joint statement condemning the state police initiating legal action against the journalists, sparing the party, as if they are unaware of the draconian theoretical outlook of left ideology as well as the crimes committed by the communist regimes against humanity.
The declaration of the party secretary came to light in the context of the implication of a local T V channel reporter who reported the scandal of fake mark list issued in favour of Mr. PM Arshom by The Maharajas College, an autonomous institution, under the state government control. P M Arshom is the state secretary to SFI, who has been gifted with a mark list in an examination in which he did not participate. Arshom alleged that, the issue related to the fake mark list is part of conspiracy hatched in connivance with the head of the department of archaeology, in which he is a student, the principal of the college and the reporter of the channel with an ulterior motive to malign the goodwill of him and his organization. Hence, he lodged a complaint straight to the state police chief and the chief in turn entrusted his subordinate to take immediate action. Hence, a criminal case has been filed against the head of the department, the principal and the reporter as the first, second and the third accused respectively.
Incidentally, P M Arshom has been implicated in more than thirty criminal cases, within the period of six years from 2013 to 2019, (13 cases out of the thirty have been charged under IPC 324 and another six cases have been charged under IPC 308) and he has been put in prison for several months for violating the bail conditions. Miss. K Vidya, another SFI activist of the same college and the close confident of Arshom is absconding after implicating in a cheating and forgery case, as she produced a fake experience certificate from the Maharajas college, against non-existing vacancies to secure teaching positions in various government colleges. Another SFI leader of within the jurisdiction of Kerala University could secure a certificate of victory in a college union election in which he did not contest. The elections of the thirty-nine persons (all are SFI members) to the council of Kerala University students’ union have been declared null and void by the Vice Chancellor for the production of fabricated documents to secure eligibility to contest the election. Mr. Nikhil Thomas, a prominent leader of the SFI from Alappuzha district and a postgraduate student of MSM College, Kyamkulam, has been under the scanner for the alleged production of a fake degree certificate to secure admission to the P G course. Govindan and Arshom still claim that their party has been targeted by the enemy journalists to tarnish its image.
Now, the question arises is whether these scams are the accidental occurrences or is there a method in the madness. The answer to the questions needs a detailed study because committing scams and practicing atrocities against humanity have been the inseparable part of the history of the communist movement all over the world. Hence, the question, is there anything wrong with the communist ideology cannot be avoided. The liberal left intellectuals used to shoulder the responsibility of scams and atrocities on the individuals who implemented the ideology. But if, all the individuals who practiced the ideology committed the identical brand of mistakes then, it can be assumed that there must be something wrong with the ideology. Hence, the faults, dear liberal lefts, are not with the individuals but with the ideology.
Dialectical and historical materialism, the basic philosophy of Marxian socio-political and economic statecraft, never provides space for justice, liberty, equality and fraternity, the tenets of the constitution of India because, these concepts can be functioned only in a society which guarantees freedom, consensus, non-violence, peace and harmony. Marxian philosophy on the contrary, believes in conflict, violence, war and destruction. According to Marxian belief every form of society other than the ultimate communist society is a class society formed of the classes of haves and have-nots. The classes of haves and have-nots are in constant conflict with each other in a class society and ultimately the class of have-nots would physically annihilate the class of the haves to establish a socialist society which is known as socialist revolution. Only one class of people, that is, the class of have-nots, would be remained after the completion of the socialist revolution as, the other class of people would be finished in the revolution. Hence, the society after the socialist revolution would be ruled by the class of the have-nots and such a regime is known as the dictatorship of the proletariat. All decisions in such a regime are taken by the politburo of the communist party consisting of a few selected individuals headed by the secretary to the party and nobody has the right to question the decisions of the party and to dissent with the authority of the party has been considered as an unpardonable crime. Therefore, freedom in Marxian philosophy means only the necessity of the individuals to obey the commands of an external agency named party or state.
Hence, no state which is ruled by the communist party can guarantee freedom of expression, freedom of religion, the freedom to enjoy human rights, the right to dissent with authority and the majority and free and fair elections to establish the government of the choice of the people. What is supreme in a communist regime is the will of the party and the will of the party is determined by the will of the secretary to the party. Therefore, the only possible form of governance in a communist statecraft is dictatorship and its result will be the absolute destruction of the cultural fabrics of the society. The October revolution, occurred in the erstwhile Soviet Union, have been applauded much by the so called liberal left intellectuals all over the world. They might have done it either concealing or wilfully ignoring the darker sides of the revolution. The revolutionaries, under the leadership of Lenin, in October revolution, had physically annihilated millions of people declaring them as the class enemies and they eradicated the great spiritual tradition created by the Orthodox Christian Church and the literary and cultural values generated by great writers like Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Pushkin and others declaring such tradition and values as the tools of oppression of the bourgeoises. In accordance with the communist faith bourgeoises must be killed by a communist, as part of his commitment to the party and any action to destroy the enemies of revolution must also be justified. What happened in the macro-space of the communist countries occurs in the micro-space in Kerala.
