Forest officials investigating the tragic incident in which a bison killed two elderly individuals on Friday near Erumeli suspect that the animal may have entered the human settlement to escape poachers lurking within its natural habitat.
Experts have highlighted that animals often venture out of the forest if they perceive threats from other wild animals or the presence of poachers in their surroundings. Bison, in particular, tend to display aggressive behavior under such circumstances or due to underlying health conditions.
Notably, the CCTV footage obtained from the area suggests that the bison responsible for the attack in Kanamala appeared to be in good health. Based on this observation, forest officials speculate that the bison fled its habitat out of fear after encountering a poacher.
The presence of poachers in the forest region near Kanamala has been confirmed by the officials, further strengthening their theory. Currently, the bison is roaming deep within the forest, and authorities are actively monitoring its movements to prevent it from returning to the human settlement.
The tragic incident occurred on Friday morning when a bison launched an unexpected attack on two individuals from Erumeli. The victims have been identified as Chacko (65) and Thomas (60), both residents of Kanamala.
Chacko was seated on the porch of his house when the bison attacked without warning, while Thomas was working in the grove at the time of the assault. The sudden and aggressive behavior of the bison resulted in the unfortunate loss of their lives.
