The Kerala police have formed a special team to track down former Student Federation of India (SFI) leader Nikhil Thomas, who is currently evading authorities in a fake certificate case. The investigation team, led by the Kayamkulam circle inspector, is searching for Nikhil, who remains at large. It has been reported that Nikhil’s mobile phone is currently switched off, adding to the challenge of locating him. The last known location of the fugitive was traced to Thiruvananthapuram on Monday.
The Kayamkulam police have filed a case against Nikhil on charges of forgery and fraud. The authorities at Kalinga University in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, brought forward the revelation that Nikhil’s degree certificate was counterfeit. This information was shared during the course of the investigation by the Kayamkulam police, who had contacted the university for verification. Subsequently, the university clarified that no such student named Nikhil Thomas had ever enrolled or studied at Kalinga University.
In a recent update, Kalinga University has announced that it will not be lodging a formal complaint with the Raipur Police regarding the fake certificate attributed to Nikhil Thomas. The university has decided that the ongoing investigation conducted by the Kerala Police is deemed sufficient. This determination was made after discussions with legal professionals and considering the progress made by the Kerala Police thus far.
Meanwhile, another SFI leader-turned-teacher Vidya who produced a fake experience certificate to get a job is also on the run. There is strong criticism that the police department and CPIM leadership are protecting the accused.
