A major accident was averted on the Kanhangad-Bengaluru Swift Super Bus at the Kasaragod depot, thanks to the timely intervention of the conductor. The driver of the bus, who was under the influence of alcohol, went missing while traveling with around 40 passengers.
According to reports, the incident occurred last day when the bus left Bangalore at 10 pm and had already traveled 100 km on the Bangalore-Mysuru Expressway. Some of the passengers noticed the driver’s erratic behavior and feared that the bus was about to tip over. When the conductor arrived at the driver’s seat, he found that the driver was not in control of the vehicle.
The driver then admitted that he was under the influence of alcohol and couldn’t see the conductor. However, the conductor acted quickly and stopped the bus before it could cause any harm to the passengers. At the time of the incident, the bus was 70 feet above the flyover.
After the incident, the KSRTC control room was informed, but no steps were taken to arrange for the passengers’ safe return. After six hours, the bus returned from Mysore with a new driver. The drunken driver, who had regained consciousness, admitted to drinking in the morning and apologized for his behavior.
