The Congress has said they will not contest the Rampur and Azamgarh Lok Sabha by-elections in Uttar Pradesh. The party made such an announcement not to contest candidates in the Lok Sabha elections following the defeat in this year’s UP Assembly elections.
Rampur and Azamgarh Lok Sabha constituencies are the sitting seats of the Samajwadi Party. The by-election will be held on June 23. The counting of votes is on June 26. Rampur MP Azam Khan and Azamgarh MP Akhilesh Yadav have resigned following their election into the state assembly.
In Rampur, Azam Khan’s wife Tanzeem Fatima has been nominated by the SP. In Azamgarh, Dharmendra Yadav is the candidate. Mayawati’s BSP is also reportedly not fielding any candidates in the by-polls.
