A complaint has been lodged with the Munambam police alleging that an LPG distribution agency owner was attacked amid a trade union strike at Kuzhuppilly near Vypin.
Uma Sudheer, a woman who belongs to a scheduled caste has filed a complaint against CITU accusing the trade union activists attacked her and hurling casteist slurs against her. A video of the CITU activists arguing with the agency owner has surfaced on social media.
In the video, CITU activists are heard saying their party governs the state and the employees will be offered jobs even if the agency gets shut down.
According to the complainant, she was beaten up by the trade union members amid a dispute over the permanent appointment of employees.
Meanwhile, it has also been alleged that the police were initially reluctant to register a case over the woman’s complaint. However, they registered the case shortly after the visuals of the incident surfaced.
“There is no footage in the video that proves the allegations in the complaint. An investigation is underway,” Munambam circle inspector told Mathrubhumi.com.
Reportedly, the agency owners have approached the court seeking police protection.
