Amidst the severe financial crisis in the state, the Kerala government has decided to appoint a commission to conduct a study on hiking the salaries of ministers and MLA.
Justice Ramachandran has been appointed to the one-member commission. The state government has demanded to submit the final report within a period of six months.
The cabinet pointed out that the salary scale of government employees have improved and the living expenses are the same for all.
The remuneration of ministers and MLAs were raised in 2018 last time. For the ministers, the salary was increased from Rs 55,012 to Rs 90,000, while the MLAs obtained a hike from Rs 39,500 to Rs 70,000.
Along with this, travel allowances for ministers were also raised from Rs 10 to Rs 15 for a km.
