In a shocking incident, a 31-year-old man, Amal Krishnan, son of CPM leader K B Sudha, died after being assaulted by a local CPM leader in front of Engandiyoor panchayat office on February 1. The incident occurred after Amal got into a dispute with a neighbor and accused the local leader of joining hands with the neighbor. A scuffle broke out, and Amal was beaten up by two CPM leaders.
Amal was rushed to Chavakkad Taluk Hospital and later shifted to a private hospital in Thrissur, where he underwent treatment for 45 days. He was discharged and brought home recently but died on Sunday evening at 8 pm. Amal was the only son of K B Sudha, who is a CPM leader, block panchayat member and mahila association leader.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, and the police have registered a case against both parties based on CCTV footage near the panchayat. Amal’s relatives alleged that the police had initially filed a trivial charge against the accused and demanded a murder case be filed against the local CPM leader.
The incident has sparked outrage, and the Congress Engandiyoor constituency committee has demanded justice for Amal and has called for a murder case to be filed against the CPM leader responsible for the attack.
