A Kerala woman was acquitted by the high court in the case of her son’s murder. The court dismissed the appeal filed by Angamaly Mukkannur resident challenging the Ernakulam Sessions Court’s verdict sentencing her to life imprisonment.
The case was that the young woman killed her nine-year-old son out of resentment towards her husband following family unrest. The court said that the prosecution failed to prove the allegations against her and acquitted the woman, citing the benefit of the doubt.
As per the police report, the baby was strangled after being given sleeping pills and a nerve in his arm was cut. The doctor said the cause of death was not an injury, poisoning or nerve injury. The tragic incident took place on April 30, 2016.
The verdict was passed by a bench comprising of Justices K Vinod Chandran and C.S. Jayachandran.
