Thousands of unvaccinated people in Karnataka have got second dose vaccination certificates without getting the vaccination done. As per the SMS received in the registered number when visiting the COWIN site, the certificate was available there too, says a report from Karnataka. Indus Scrolls has received a certificate thus issued by the CoWIN portal.
“I had done the last vaccination 4 months ago, however, didn’t find a slot for the second dose of the vaccine,” said a Mysorean who recently received a certificate of vaccination without getting the jab. “However, I was surprised to see an SMS in my number that said I have received the second dose. Out of curiosity, when visited the CoWIN portal, the certificate was available there,” he added.
Earlier, there were reports from Tamil Nadu where a few received certificates without getting the jab. The management of the hospital, where the incident was reported, however, claimed that the certificates were generated by the CoWIN portal and the hospital did not have a role in it. As per the report, around 20 people, who had come to the hospital on the same day, got the vaccination certificate without getting vaccinated.
Though the government is claiming this to be a “technical problem”, this could be a tip of an iceberg, says an analyst. The vaccines thus marked as “administered” could be sold to private agencies for money making it a scam of several million, whereas there is also a possibility that government does this for manipulating the figures connected to the distribution of vaccines.
