The Inquiry commission appointed to probe the death of a woman and her newborn baby in Alappuzha Govt. Medical college ruled out the possibility of medical negligence. The commission could find no lapses from the side of doctors in the death of Aparna and her newborn child at the Govt Medical College in Alappuzha.
Aparna’s heartbeat rate and blood pressure started to decrease only an hour after starting the surgery. As modern anaesthesia drugs belong to the short-acting group, the reverse action caused by these drugs will not continue till this period, reads the report.
Apart from this, the commission advised the staff at Govt Medical Colleges to behave politely with the patients and bystanders. The commission also recommended resolving the complaints lodged against the rude behaviour of the hospital staff. For this, special training in hospitality and communication has to be provided for the staff, who work in departments demanding special care for patients.
The authorities should ensure modern facilities and equipment in each hospital and introduce a system for informing the relatives promptly regarding the condition of a patient.
The six-member commission chaired by the head of the surgery department Dr NR Saji Kumar was formed as per the order of the Govt Medical College superintendent Dr A Abdul Salam. The probe report has been submitted to the principal of the Medical College.
