According to reports, tomato fever is spreading quickly in Kerala. Though tomato fever has been reported in Tamil Nadu, Odisha and Karnataka, more cases are being reported in Kerala.
In Kerala, Kollam district has reported the highest number of tomato cases. A total of 82 cases were reported in the government hospitals in the district between May 6 and July 26.
The majority of cases are from Anchal, Aryankavu and Neduvathoor. The disease is also seen most commonly in children below the age of five.
Symptoms include fever, body pain, and rashes. The fever usually wears off within seven to ten days but there are no known medications to treat tomato fever.
However, the report says that the human body can defend itself when it affects tomato fever.
