An incident involving the death of a tiger in Wayanad has led to a local man hanging himself after being questioned by the forest department. The man, Hari of Nalu Cent Colony, was found dead early in the morning after being questioned the previous day regarding the death of a one-and-a-half-year-old tiger that had been terrorizing the area for days.
The tiger was found dead with a rope around its neck in a private garden and a case was filed against the plantation owner. Hari’s family claims he was under severe mental stress and afraid of being implicated in the case, however, the forest department denies this and says he was not accused or a witness in the case.
A protest is planned for today to block the National Highway in Batheri over Hari’s death. The forest department is investigating the case and has filed a complaint against the plantation owner under the Prohibition of Hunting Act under the Wildlife Protection Act.
