Kudamattam, the exchange of colourful umbrellas, was held as a part of Thrissur Pooram. However, the grand festival was disturbed by a heavy downpour.
The meeting of the deities and kudamattam which was witnessed by millions of people began at 5.30 pm. Umbrellas in different forms like goddess, Buddha, Lord Vishnu and many other types were changed by the Paramekkavu Thiruvambadi sides.
Heavy security was put in place at Pooram ground, which became active from 7 am. A separate, secure space has been set up, it was women-friendly pooram.The Madathilvaravu panchavadyam of Thiruvambadi was led by Kongadu Madhu.At half past two, Peruvanam Kuttan Marar led the Paramekkavu Ilanjithara Melam
Meanwhile, officials said that the Pooram fireworks have been postponed due to heavy rain. Organizers are hoping that the fireworks will take place when the weather becomes favourable.
