It has been hinted that the youth killed in a cylinder explosion in a car here is a suicide attack. The youth was killed in the blast that happened in front of the Kottai Easwaram temple near Town Hall Sunday morning at 4 am. The gas cylinder in the car exploded. The dead has been identified as Jemisha Mubeen, 25 of Ukkadam and an engineering graduate.
The NIA had questioned Jemisha Mubeen for his alleged links with ISIS in 2019. The police also stated that the NIA had raided his house. The reason for suspecting a suicide attack was the discovery of a cache of explosives from his house.
The investigating officers said the cylinder exploded when the youth was trying to get out of the car after seeing the police at the check post. Only he was in the car. The car belonged to Prabhakaran of Pollachi. The car has been completely damaged in the blast. There was another cylinder, nails, marbles and other stuff in the car. A temporary shelter of the temple gate has been partially destroyed in the blast.
Security has been beefed up across Coimbatore following the blast. High alert has been issued in Tamil Nadu. Security has been beefed up in view of Diwali celebrations. The state police chief is directly coordinating the security. Vehicles entering the city are also being inspected.
