A scooter rider met a tragic end after falling into a pothole on the national highway. The accident took place in Athani near Angamali on Friday night. Hashim, a native of Paravur, died in the accident. After the scooter fell into the pit, the lorry ran over Hashim’s body.
The incident took place near Nedumbassery School on Angamaly-Edappally road. The accident occurred at a bend in the road around 11 pm. The National Highway authorities closed the pothole on the road at night. The police said that after examining the CCTV footage, they will register a case and investigate. The deceased Hashim was a hotel worker.
Meanwhile, Public Works Department Minister P A Muhammad Riyas has expressed his response over the death. The faults in the national highway were brought to the attention of the legislature. Many letters have been sent to the central government pointing out the issues on the highway from Thrissur to Angamali, including the place where the accident took place. However, they have not paid adequate attention to it, criticized the minister.
