Protests have intensified in the southern Indian state of Kerala following an incident of insulting the Hindu ritual of the palanquin procession. The incident occurred during a protest march led by Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) state secretary MV Govindan, where a symbolic procession carrying a palanquin with the CPM symbol was taken out.
The Onattukara Jiva Thirumudi Ezhunnallat Samrakshak Samiti, various Hindu organizations, and the temple protection committee have come forward to protest against the CPM for insulting the temple ritual. The organizers have called for all believers to join the protest on March 18 in Chengnoor town.
The protest rally and meeting will be held under the joint auspices of various Hindu organizations to express their anger against the “infidels who insulted and mutilated Jiva Ezhunnallat, the most important part of the Hindu temple rituals of Onnatukara by hurting the sentiments of devotees.” The organizers have demanded that all Hindus come together to stand against such arrogance that constantly insults Hindu rituals.
“We have to understand why they do not interfere in the rituals of other religions. It is because we are not ready to react that we have to face this situation again. We are coming against this action which exploits our custom, tradition, and faith. As a self-respecting believer, as a Hindu, participate in the protest and make it successful,” the organizers stated.
The incident has sparked outrage among Hindu groups, who have accused the CPM of disrespecting their religious beliefs. The CPM has yet to comment on the incident or the protests.
