Popular vlogger Mohammad Nihad, known by his vlogging name ‘Thoppi,’ has been arrested by the Valanchery police after an incident involving his inappropriate behavior and use of foul language during the inauguration of a shop in Valanchery. The arrest took place at his friend’s residence in Ernakulam on Thursday night.
According to reports, Nihad was located in a room whose lock had become jammed. Eventually, he handed over the key to the officers through the lower part of the door. However, despite their efforts, the door could not be opened with the key, prompting the police to forcefully kick it open. The entire incident, including Nihad’s exit from the room, was streamed live by the vlogger.
During the live video, Nihad claimed that he was being targeted with a fabricated case to divert attention from other political matters. He believed that the situation was unnecessarily exaggerated. Nihad stated that he had informed the police that he would visit the police station the following day and accused them of arresting him solely for the purpose of creating news headlines.
Following his arrest, Nihad will be produced in Valanchery court. As part of the investigation, the police have confiscated a hard disk, a computer, and two mobile phones.
Previously, a case was filed against Mohammad Nihal and the shop owner, Zainul Abid, who had invited Nihad to the inauguration event. The charges against Nihad and Abid include traffic obstruction on the national highway and the use of vulgar chants and songs in front of the gathered crowd. A complaint was lodged by Saifuddin Padath, a local philanthropist. The shop inauguration took place at 11 am on June 17, attracting a large number of teenagers and causing significant traffic congestion.
Residents and travelers expressed their frustration due to the prolonged road blockage caused by the gathering. Additionally, Murshidul Haq, a district executive member of AIYF, lodged a separate complaint at the Valanchery police station regarding the incident.
