In a bid to raise awareness on the need to prevent violence against women in the industry, Kerala will set up domestic committees in film production units
This was announced by the representatives of the film industry in a workshop on ‘Gender and Professionalism in Malayalam Cinema’ organized by the Women’s Development Corporation. Women’s Commission chairperson P Sathidevi suggested that internal committees be set up in every unit of cinema to ensure the safety of women.
She also demanded that the Producers’ Association should take a stand that a film should be allowed only after the formation of a committee. Producers’ Association President Renjith assured the full cooperation of the producers in this regard.
Renjith said that most film sets will be under the control of the production controller. Hence they should also be given awareness, he said.WCC representative Beena Paul said there should be an internal committee in each set.
AMMA General Secretary Idavela Babu said that the association had been trying to form a committee since 2019. However, FEFKA spokesman Sohan Seenulal said that AMMA was an association and the responsibility of its committee was to resolve the grievances of AMMA members.
