In a shocking revelation regarding the scope of business in Kerala, an RTI shows that only four companies have invested more than Rs 100 crore for various projects in the state between 2011 and 2022 February.
The projects were started with the help of the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC). The details of private investment in the state came in reply to an RTI query filed by Kochi-based activist K Govindan Namboothiri.
However, records say that there are massive projects with an overall investment of Rs 12,375 crores awaiting approval from the Kerala Single Window Clearance Board.
This includes Vizhinjam Airport (Rs 7525 cr), Multi Speciality Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram (Rs 600 cr), Luxury Hotel (Rs 600 cr), IT Park in Thrissur (Rs 1200 cr), a shopping mall in Kozhikode (Rs 250 cr) and many more.
Though officials say approval is getting delayed due to legal hurdles faced in land transactions, rules related to wetlands and others, there are reports that most of the delays are due to the commission demands of the ruling CPM goons.
