Latest in the series of accidents caused by newly introduced Swift buses in Kerala, two persons lost their lives in Chengannur when a KSRTC-Swift bus and a car collided. The accident happened today around 11:30 PM.
The deceased have been identified as Eramalloor native Shinoy and Cherthala native Vishnu. Though locals and police rushed the individuals to the District hospital after the accident, they succumbed to their injuries.
The bus was heading from Thiruvananthapuram to Sultan Bathery, while the car was in Thiruvananthapuram direction. Due to the collision, the car was completely destroyed. The front side of the bus has also been damaged.
A number of accidents have happened after the Kerala government introduced Swift buses in the state. While there is an allegation that the government is entrusting inexperienced drivers, the authority has not taken any action on this.
Amidst the PR works of the Pinarayi government claim that the buses are making profit, substantial evidences prove that along with KSRTC, swift buses are also taking the department to huge losses. SWIFT is formed as a separate company for ‘SWIFT’ for long-distance services.
So far, 30 SWIFT buses have been let out for the KSRTC. The government is planning to introduce 100 new SWIFT buses in April.
