The Kerala government has said that the governor should not be appointed as chancellor of universities. The answer was given in response to the recommendations of Justice Madan Mohan Punchhi Commission.
In the response to the commission, the LDF government asserted that the governor can continue with his constitutional powers and repeated that the chancellor post does not come under the purview of constitutional powers.
Justice Madan Mohan Punchhi Commission was constituted to study the relationship between the state governments and the Union government. The committee report was published earlier.
The commission also suggested certain modifications to the relationship between centre and state. The state governments were asked to inform their opinion over the governor’s powers.
