In an incident that reveals the arrogance of CPIM leaders in Kerala, an MLA has filed a complaint against a hotel that charged Rs. 184 for two including the MLA. Chittaranjan who is representing Alappuzha in the legislative assembly filed a complaint about ‘exorbitant prices for food’ charged by the hotel.
As per reports, the MLA and the driver arrived at the hotel on Friday morning. They both ate five appam (a variety of dosa) and two egg roasts each. The bill is Rs 184 including GST. The MLA said that this was unfair when an egg cost just Rs. 5 and complained that the dosa was too thin!
Soon after the media published the ‘complaint’ the MLA was sharply criticised by netizens. While most of them opined that the MLA was angry because the owner of the hotel didn’t offer free food for the MLA, many others took this opportunity to remind him of regular charges and the cost of running a hotel.
Kerala CPM leaders, especially ministers are notorious for the extravagance in their ministry. Former Health Minister KK Shailaja sporting spectacles worth ₹ 28,000, Former speaker Mr Sreeramakrishnan buying spectacles priced at ₹ 49,900 etc. were just examples while most of the ministers use lakhs of tax-payers’ money for medical reimbursement etc. The leaders who claimed to be the people’s party usually forget their background once become ministers.
In this context, the complaint of the MLA is widely criticised. Though the hotel owner has explained the process and cost of the food served to the MLA, considering the arrogance of the CPIM leaders in the state it is evident that the hotel would face action of some sort. Earlier the MLA faced controversy when he was found wiping his face with a mask for which he had expressed his regret through a Facebook post.
