Students in medical fields including MBBS studying under Kerala University of Health Science can now learn in Malayalam as well. The process of teaching Malayalam writings including classics to one lakh students in seven streams will begin today at Thunjan parambu in Tirur on Kerala piravi day. MT Vasudevan Nair will inaugurate the function. This will also start the activities of preparing the curriculum required for the course. This is in collaboration with Malayalam University.
The curriculum is being prepared under the leadership of Malayalam University Vice-Chancellor Anil Vallathol and cancer specialist and author Dr MV Pillai. The first batch will start by January. For the first time in the country, facilities are being set up for regional language studies along with medical studies. It is now being implemented as an online course.
In the first phase, those who are interested can choose the course. It may become mandatory after two years. For all courses including MBBS, Malayalam studies will start from the first year. Along with the study of various courses, Malayalam is also taught with the permission of Kerala University of Health Science to conduct certificate courses. The exam will be conducted online every year. Malayalam should be studied throughout the study period. Malayalam University certificate will also be awarded to the winners. Some students who come to study in Kerala from other states also need to treat patients. However, language is often a barrier during treatment. Even children in Kerala grow up without any connection with their mother tongue after class 10th.
