In a shocking incident, a highly toxic, cancer-causing rhodamine was found in cotton candy sold in Kerala.
Following the incident, health Minister Veena George announced that the food safety department would be conducting widespread inspections for Rhodamine, a textile dye that can cause cancer and is being used in cotton candy sold in the Kollam district.
The recently formed Task Force, created specifically to address food safety issues, will be conducting inspections across the state.
The Food Safety Department has previously shut down a cotton candy factory in Karunagapally, Kollam for using banned colours.
The preparation area for the candy was also found to be unclean, and packages ready for sale were seized. The minister warned that strict action will be taken and the investigation will continue with full force.
