Vinod Khanna, one of the most charismatic and talented actors in Indian cinema, left an indelible mark on the industry with his powerful performances and charming persona. He was not only a renowned actor but also a prominent politician who served as a Member of Parliament for the Gurdaspur constituency in Punjab.
Born on October 6, 1946, in Peshawar (now in Pakistan), Vinod Khanna started his acting career in 1968 with the film “Man Ka Meet”. He soon established himself as a versatile actor who could handle a wide range of roles, from romantic leads to intense character roles. He acted in more than 150 films in a career spanning over four decades.
Some of his memorable films include “Mera Gaon Mera Desh”, “Amar Akbar Anthony”, “Qurbani”, “Parvarish”, and “Muqaddar Ka Sikandar”. He received critical acclaim for his performances in “Mere Apne”, “Achanak”, and “Lekin”. He also acted in several Hollywood films, including “The Burning Train” and “Jurassic Park”.
Apart from his acting prowess, Vinod Khanna was known for his dashing looks, magnetic personality, and baritone voice. He was a heartthrob of his time and had a huge fan following among both men and women.
In 1982, at the height of his career, Vinod Khanna took a sabbatical and moved to Osho’s ashram in Pune, where he spent five years meditating and exploring spirituality. He returned to the film industry in 1987 and continued to act in films until his death.
Vinod Khanna’s sudden demise on April 27, 2017, due to bladder cancer left his fans and the film fraternity in shock. He was 70 years old at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife Kavita Khanna, four children, and several grandchildren.
