The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is set to investigate the use of propaganda films in Malayalam and the financial source behind them. The investigation also involves Listin Stephen, a prominent producer in Malayalam cinema who has collaborated with actor Prithviraj in several films.
The ED is suspicious of the source of funds for these films, including the involvement of a group from Qatar that is investing in the industry. Salim, a producer from Kochi, is also being investigated as part of this system.
The ED has obtained evidence of this case, including documents obtained during raids conducted by the Income Tax Department. The investigation aims to control the flow of funds from Qatar to Malayalam cinema, as the central agencies have received documents indicating that some Malayalam producers have received significant sums of money from abroad.
Listin Stephen is suspected to have been involved in a propaganda film, and the ED is investigating his role in it. Prithviraj’s popularity is also believed to be part of the issue. Liston has been interrogated by the ED and has been given a notice to appear again on Monday.
The investigation has also led to the questioning of other producers, with five producers of Malayalam cinema under the surveillance of the central agencies. The agencies have received a statement that most intoxicants reach shooting locations during the production of films with foreign money investments.
It is suggested that black money from foreign sources may be reaching Kerala for the production of propaganda films that may adversely affect national security. The ED’s investigation aims to uncover the financial source behind such films and control the flow of funds from foreign sources to Malayalam cinema.
