“Yatra naryastu pujyanthe ramante tatra devata”
An ancient quote reiterates that one should pay reverence towards women.
Womanhood confers chastity and sanctity on mankind.
The prehistoric civilizations flourished and prospered a lot, guided by matriarchal families. The Indian households were the centres of learning, patriotism, valour, compassion and stoicism, under the influence of women.
From cradle to grave, the role of a woman in a man’s life is irreplaceable. Without the association of woman, man becomes a beast.
The traditional woman was the source of mankind’s existence and the backbone of its survival. She used to play diversified roles as mother, wife, sister, sister-in-law, daughter etc. to the utmost extent. She was the cornerstone of the family, ensuring men a cosy household, thereby letting them execute their personal as well as professional responsibilities.
It’s an undeniable fact that, without a congenial ambience in the home, no man can perform his duties well.
Even though, the woman of the age-old generation was behind the success of man; there were many atrocities on her. The bygone generations witnessed a lot such acts of monstrosity viz. Kanya Sulkam, Varakatnam, Sati Sahagamanam, Child marriage and the like. Whatever be the generation, a woman is a victim forever, containing the frustration and male ego. A woman is a beacon, who stands for universal tolerance.
The woman was the puppet in the hands of Man for satiating his desires, irrespective of the time and territory. Most of the women of the previous years lived life in deplorable and pathetic conditions. She was deprived of her fundamental rights, in spite of her sacrifices to the family.
One might think that as the years passed on, the attitudes changed and the situations advanced. The trendy woman has been a well-educated person, a successful entrepreneur, a reliable manager, a dynamic administrator, an eloquent statesman; whatnot, she occupied every field, once dominated by man. Moreover, she established her supremacy in every walk of human life.
Nevertheless the achievements, she couldn’t get control of her physical vulnerability. Yet, she has been the holy grail for assaults. Those were the days when four walls witnessed the anguish of woman, now, the four sides of nature North, East, West and South. Time is irrelevant, but, the victim is the same. Domestic violence has been transformed into Universal violence.
The beauty and tenderness of womanhood and physical vulnerability have been the timeless curse for a woman.
As women, we need not fight for equality, instead, we should fight for humanity.
Let’s pray for a World of security for the naivety of womanhood, be it a baby, a girl or a woman.
It’s the moral responsibility of all the mothers of all those monsters, resorting to barbaric activities; to inculcate humanity and empathy towards women.
Let’s teach them not to look at women as physical objects rather look at them as respectable human beings.
“The story of Women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights.”
