The NIA has identified the funding centres of IS sleeping cells in Kerala, said a report The NIA has been monitoring a number of people in Kerala and Kashmir in this regard. The NIA has found that crores of funds are coming to Kerala for sleeping cells from Pakistan through Kashmir.
Special groups worked for IS sleeping cells in Kerala to strengthen jihad and promote social media. Some of these were inactivated and a few were arrested as the intelligence systems were set up. But many of the funding centres for terrorist sleeping cells are still active. Funds have been received for such groups from Kerala and Kashmir. Mangalore-based groups are also a source of income.
Mohammed Waqar Leon, also known as Wilson al-Kashmiri, who controlled funding in Kashmir, had earlier been arrested by the National Investigation Agency. Two women and a few more are arrested who are from Malappuram, Kannur and Kollam districts.
The arrested also managed Malayalam Telegram channels and groups calling for riots and channel broadcasts for the propagation of terrorist ideologies. Pro-Islamic State footage was also circulated that were prepared in Afghanistan and Syria.
