BJP leader and actor Khushbu Sundar criticized a DMK platform speaker for his offensive remarks about her, sparking a wave of controversy. Sundar expressed her discontent with the “crass comments” and stated that the National Commission for Women (NCW), of which she is a member, will address the issue independently. The ruling party promptly took action and announced the dismissal of the platform speaker, Sivaji Krishnamurthy, for indiscipline and tarnishing the party’s reputation.
Taking to Twitter and later emotionally addressing a press conference, Sundar raised her concerns and shared her disappointment with Krishnamurthy’s remarks. During the press meet, Sundar became visibly emotional and broke down while discussing the matter. She revealed that she had already reported the incident to the Tamil Nadu State Commission for Women, further emphasizing her commitment to seeking justice.
In a tweet, Sundar posted a video of Krishnamurthy and condemned his offensive remarks, highlighting the prevalent political culture within the DMK. She pointed out that such behavior towards women often goes unchecked and, disturbingly, seems to be rewarded with more opportunities. Sundar directly addressed Chief Minister M K Stalin, expressing her disappointment and urging him to address the issue seriously.
Later, addressing the media, Sundar questioned the negative perception of women held by political parties in general and stated that she was speaking on behalf of all women. She reassured women that they should not be afraid and affirmed her dedication to standing up for them. Sundar firmly asserted that the issue was not merely about a DMK member insulting a BJP woman leader but rather an attack on women as a whole.
Criticizing the DMK, Sundar highlighted the contradiction between the party’s claims of inclusivity and development-oriented governance and the nurturing of individuals like Krishnamurthy within their ranks. BJP state president K Annamalai also condemned Krishnamurthy’s remarks, referencing his controversial speech about Governor R N Ravi and demanding immediate action against the repeat offender. Annamalai shared a video clip where Krishnamurthy allegedly made derogatory comments about the Governor in light of recent political developments.
It is worth noting that Krishnamurthy had previously faced suspension for his controversial statements about Governor Ravi, which was later revoked after he issued an apology. However, in a recent party statement, DMK general secretary Duraimurugan announced Krishnamurthy’s expulsion, citing violations of party discipline and damage to the party’s reputation.
