Google has revealed its plans to launch an AI-powered chat software called Bard, aimed at competing with ChatGPT, which has gained popularity in recent months.
The conversational chatbot is based on LaMDA, Google’s language model for dialogue applications system, and has been in the works for several years.
According to a blog post by Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Bard AI will soon be available for testing and will be made more widely available in the coming weeks.
The blog post states that Bard will use information from the web to provide fresh and high-quality responses.
Google is promoting it as a tool for creativity and curiosity, helping users to explain complex ideas to others, or learn about various topics.
Similarly to ChatGPT, Bard will use a limited version of its language model to reduce computing power and reach a wider audience. However, there are some key differences between the two products, as reported by Forbes.
For example, ChatGPT will be available as a standalone product or via API, whereas no such information has been released about Bard AI.
Additionally, ChatGPT is free to the public (with a paid version called ChatGPT Plus), while Bard is only being offered to a select group of trusted testers.
