Union Minister Smriti Irani took a subtle dig at former MP Rahul Gandhi during her recent visit to Wayanad. Without explicitly mentioning his name, Irani expressed her concerns about Rahul Gandhi’s presence in Wayanad, urging the locals to ensure that he does not replicate the lack of development experienced in Amethi.
Highlighting the stark contrast between the two regions, Irani stated that there were specific reasons why Rahul Gandhi had to shift from Uttar Pradesh to Wayanad. During his tenure as MP in Amethi, the region faced significant developmental challenges. Shockingly, 80 percent of households in Amethi lacked access to electricity. The absence of essential facilities was evident, as there was no functioning collector’s office, fire brigade, or medical college. Additionally, the district hospital lacked crucial equipment such as dialysis centers and x-ray machines. The absence of prominent educational institutions like Kendriya Vidyalaya and Sainik School further compounded the challenges faced by the residents.
However, the situation in Amethi began to improve significantly after Rahul Gandhi left the constituency. The Union Minister pointed out that positive changes and development initiatives were initiated after his departure. Irani emphasized that if Rahul Gandhi continues to focus on Wayanad, the people of Amethi may continue to experience similar developmental deficiencies.
During her visit to Wayanad, Smriti Irani also highlighted the efforts taken to strengthen the local Anganwadis. As part of ongoing initiatives, 250 Anganwadi centers have been reinforced to ensure the welfare and well-being of children and women in the region.
